The amount of weight you should gain during pregnancy is based on your height and on your weight before you became pregnant. Your healthcare professional will help you figure out, based on how tall you are, whether you were underweight, average weight, or overweight before you became pregnant.

Here is a guideline for weight gain during your pregnancy. Your doctor's recommendation may differ slightly.

Underweight before pregnancy:
Gain 28 to 40 pounds.

Average weight before pregnancy:
Gain 25 to 35 pounds

Overweight before pregnancy:
Gain 15 to 25 pounds

Pregnant with twins:
Gain 35 to 50 pounds
