Record Your Information

Have your coach keep good notes about your labor and delivery. This can be helpful medical information for any future pregnancy you might have. It’s also a good idea to include a copy of this type of medical history in the background information about yourself that you give to your child.

The type of facts you should write down include:

  • How long your labor lasted
  • Any complications during your labor: pre-eclamsia, cord prolapse
  • Medications you took during labor and delivery
  • Anesthesia that was administered to you and any adverse reactions you may have had
  • Information about the delivery: forceps, vacuum extraction, Caesarian section, fetal distress
  • Time of delivery
  • Length, weight and Apgar scores of the baby
You might want to keep this in the form of a journal or scrapbook, along with any photos, footprints, and other remembrances.
