Don’t take any additional vitamins or supplements unless your doctor has recommended that you do. Too much of some vitamins can harm you and your baby:
Vitamins A, D, E, and K can be very dangerous if you take too much of any of them, because they are stored up in your body.
High levels of Vitamin A can cause birth defects. Take no more than 4,000 to 5,000 IUs (International Units, which are listed on vitamin labels).Beta carotene is a safer form of Vitamin A.
Don’t worry about eating too many carrots or other foods that contain Vitamin A, though. The amount you would get through a normal diet would rarely be toxic.
