Constipation during pregnancy is not uncommon. Besides the discomfort of the constipation itself, this condition can lead to painful hemorrhoids. To avoid this condition try to drink about twice as much water as you normally do, approximately one-half gallon each day. Whole grains, bran, fresh or dried fruits, especially prunes, can add fluids and fiber that can help ease constipation.
